Summary:
This is a UNIX System Senior Architect position. This position is responsible for troubleshooting UNIX server-based hardware, operating systems, and software problems. Installs, configures designs, maintains, and performs testing of UNIX-based operating systems, related utilities, infrastructure applications, and hardware. Monitors systems activities and fine tunes configuration to optimize performance. Performs system analysis to ensure systems are following best practices for security and performance. Develops procedures for routine administration including: patching, deploying software, implementing changes and UNIX Server configuration. Provides recommendations for improving the server environment, which would include, but not limited to, items such as capacity planning and utilization, security gaps, patch levels, and hardware/OS evaluations.
Responsibilities
Ø Solaris/Linux System Administration: acknowledge, troubleshoot, and resolve L3/L4 tickets; perform root cause analysis; install OS patches, packages, and hot fixes; hardware and software upgrades; backup; disk/cpu/memory monitoring; performance tuning; capacity planning; system integration; and other on-demand requests
Ø Responsible for SLA Management, Customer Satisfaction and Support Process
Ø Recommend and Prepare system improvement roadmaps, take guidance wherever necessary.
Ø Plans, tests, installs, and integrates new and upgraded versions of the relevant operating systems on organizational computer systems, all third-party software components, and subsystems
Ø Provides technical support to applications and utility developers on requirements for integration into the operating environment
Ø Work closely with other operations groups. Provides leadership in resolving problems and providing feedback on processes and procedures for continuous improvement.
Ø Contribute to Solaris and Linux standards discussion and documents with respect to OS, hardware, storage, networking, and security and author appropriate documentation wherever necessary
Ø Work with database, application and business owners to gather requirements for new projects and expansions to existing applications.
Experience/Skills:
Ø An Engineering Graduate with 10+ years of experience in Unix Oracle Solaris and Linux Administration.
Ø Must maintain a level of professionalism and courtesy, even in undesirable situations.
Ø Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
Ø Must be customer service oriented and believe in teamwork, collaboration, adaptability, and Initiative.
Ø Good Knowledge of IT products like Servers, Storage, Switches, Routers, Firewall, Backup Software, Microsoft Technologies, and other IT technologies products and Service Management ITIL
Ø Experience in Linux, Oracle Solaris 10 & 11, Oracle VM Server & Logical Domains (LDOM) required.
Ø Must have working knowledge of Zones, Oracle Sun Hardware, NFS, FTP, NIS, SSH, DNS, TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, Oracle Live upgrade, Samba, middleware, Shell Scripting and etc.,
