The GPS based fleet tracking system is designed for a fleet of 10000 vehicles. All the vehicles irrespective of the user will be fitted with a vehicle mounted unit, named Nirdeshak. Nirdeshak unit will generate the position data using the GPS technology and transmit the data using the GPRS network the Central Control Room.

The proposed system  consists of four major components namely vehicle mounted unit, FTS application software, Geographical information system and  mobile communication network.

VMU gathers the vehicle position and related information and transmits the same to the central control room over the communication network.

Each vehicle will be fitted with Vehicle Mounted unit which comprises of an integrated GPS receiver a GPRS modem and a mobile communication unit. The VMU computes the current position information speed. The position information and other data will be transmitted over the mobile communication system to the control centre of CTO.

Each vehicle will be fitted with a vehicle mounted unit which will be powered by the vehicle battery. The VMU will send the position data using the GSM/GPRS network to the central control station. The position date as received by the communication server will be processed and posted to the database server. Any messaging or configuration parameter to be sent to the VMU will be forwarded to the

VMU will be forwarded to the VMU by the communication server.
