Project
Title
: “Modification of pinch roll cum flattener coupling of Continuous pickling line of Cold rolling mill in JSW Steels
Limited”

Problem Statement
Flattener coupling bolts were not able to withstand the torque
generated by the coupling via flattener gearbox. And once the coupling bolts
were damaged, the time taken to take out the same at the site was very high and
it was also very difficult to perform this activity as the area is quite
congested. The frequency of failure of the coupling bolts was also very high.
M/s FPE also was unable to provide the
solution for the same.
Scope of project:
Modification of the coupling in such a way that the bolts could
withstand the torque and in case of an unfortunate failure the same could be
replaced within a short span of time there by reducing the downtime.
M. Tech Final Year Project:
The
principle tribological parameters that control the friction and wear
performances of reinforced aluminum composite can be classified into two categories.
One is mechanical & physical factors and the other is material factors. The
mechanical & physical factors has been identified as sliding velocity and
normal load, whereas, with regards to the material factors they are volume
fraction and type of reinforcements. The outcome of all these findings is that wear properties are
improved remarkably by introducing hard intermetallic compound in to the
aluminum matrix.
Scope of project:
In
this present work, Aluminum 7075 is used as matrix material with Boron Carbide
as reinforcement. Two different compositions were used to prepare the
composite. The composite were fabricated by Liquid metallurgy technique. Among
them Stir Casting technique is used to fabricate the composite as it is more
economical method. Composite specimens are prepared as per ASTM G99 Standard
and tested under Pin-on-Disc wear test rig. The results show that, the
reinforced composite Aluminum 7075-10%B4C shows improvement in wear resistance
than that of the Aluminum 7075-5%B4C.
